Thief in the Night

by Jane
(Staten Island, New York)

Since Duke, our reverse brindle Boxer was a pup, he slept on a blanket on the floor at the foot of our bed. When he got to be a year old, he decided he wanted his own bed. Now as soon as we turn out the light in the bedroom, Duke goes around to my husband's side of the bed, then to mine. We pretend to be fast asleep, and watch him gather up his blanket and go down to the guest room where he sleeps on the bed. The next morning, as soon as he hears movement in our room, he brings the blanket back up, lays down on it and pretends he was there all night. We never let on that we know what he did since that would spoil his trick. Boxers are the smartest!
