straddling

by Leah Gagliardo
(Calabasas, CA)

I have a 11 month old female boxer who is constantly straddling our 13 year old pug. She is not aggressive, but more annoying than anything. If my pug walks away, Ever, the boxer follows her and puts her leg over her face and just stands there. Why?

Answer:

This sounds like the boxer is trying to dominate the other dog. This is an issue that often happens with boxers and smaller dogs.

You need to make it clear to your boxer that you are the dominant one in the "pack". Reprimand her calmly and firmly when she does this. An obedience class with other dogs might also help here.

This is an excellent course if you'd like to learn more about dog training.
